Where I Go to Hear Myself Again

There is a particular kind of silence I’ve come to value more with time.
Not absence. Not emptiness. A full, sunlit quiet. The kind that arrives when your skin is warm, your phone is somewhere out of reach, and the water is still enough to reflect the sky back to you.
I’ve learned not to underestimate these moments. They look simple from the outside,

an afternoon by the pool, bare legs in the water, light moving across the surface, but they do something important. They return me to myself.
I spend a great deal of my life in motion. Thought, travel, conversation, plans, decisions. I enjoy all of that. I’m built for a certain degree of momentum. But I also know that a woman becomes more interesting, not less, when she knows how to pause.
This is one of my favourite luxuries: time that asks nothing of me.
Just warmth. Beauty. Palm trees in the distance. A body at rest. A mind softening around the edges.
I think we often imagine a beautiful life as one filled with dramatic moments. Increasingly, I think it is built from quieter ones. The small, exquisite pauses that remind you your life belongs to you.
